Relationship[]

Ashton Greymoore and Fearne Calloway are allies, friends, and potentially are romantically attracted to one another. They get on well, and often try to pickpocket each other. As of "Fractures" (3x78), after what happened with the fire shard of Rau'shan, their relationship was a bit tense and Fearne was angry at Ashton. However, they both agreed they will need another private conversation about what happened that day, in time.

History[]

Ashton and Fearne enjoyed each other's mischief. The two had a form of good-natured flirtatious pick-pocketing game going on between each other, which Ashton began by pickpocketing her when they first met, stealing a large earring of the Allhammer's symbol, which Fearne herself stole from a pachydan priest she met on her first day in Jrusar. She then countered and stole the earring back, offering it to Preio Madali as payment for a bottle of Elvish alcohol. In return, Ashton stole the chamber pot with a flower growing out of it (which Fearne originally lifted from Dugger's house) when she was blinded by electric shock.

At some point, she offered to let Ashton drink some of the liquor out of her hair after Bertrand Bell accidentally threw it at her.

Both seemed to be interested in each other, with Fearne frequently finding Ashton interesting and beautiful despite their broken appearance. Ashton seemed interested in Fearne as well, often finding her eccentric personality and fae lifestyle enchanting. Ashton, despite their intense dislike of physical contact due to their chronic pain, frequently sought physical connection with Fearne. He was the only person within Bells Hells who pickpocketed Fearne, and often sought her out during moments of levity, as seen during the end of the crawler chase when he called her name and fell into the same hole she had fallen in earlier. This is the most apparent during "Red Moon Rising" (3x50), when Ashton hugged Fearne before the two parties disbanded to defeat the Malleus Key, and he pickpocketed her. When she caught him, Fearne asked what he had wanted from her, to which Ashton responded that they had wanted "something personal and irreplaceable". Fearne granted their wish by kissing them on the forehead, with Ashton shyly responding, "Well, f*ck, now that's just really hard to steal back."^[1]

After a conversation during which Ashton referred to the faun as a potential "sister" she was confused, so he clarified that he considered her very attractive; they had a candid conversation which ended when Fearne called him hot and ran away.^[2] Later that day, while Ashton was trying to convince Fearne to help him to use the Quintessence Array to absorb the elemental power of a titan, he kissed her (officially stealing her kiss back).^[3] The shard almost killed Ashton, and although the druid helped keep them alive with her magic, when the process was over she kicked Ashton in the head. Angry at the barbarian and in tears, she took Ashton's hammer and slammed it into their face once, then slammed the hammer on the ground next to Ashton's head over and over, with the intention of breaking the hammer before being stopped by FCG. Fearne ran down the stairs of the Ziggurat, leaving the area, furious. Chetney followed the druid to try to talk to her. During the conversation about Ashton, Fearne admitted to Chetney that "I like him a little bit, Chet." The next morning, after a night of sleeping in the woods, Fearne returned Whitestone Castle and greeted everyone except Ashton, not even making eye contact. Later, after a group conversation with Allura Vysoren, Fearne and Ashton had a private conversation in the castle's library. Ashton apologized and told her that the shard experience was very painful, but knowing she was there to witness everything was even more painful to them. Fearne told him that she didn't really want to talk about it right now, and said she wasn't sure if she liked them at the moment, but had a feeling that Ashton felt the same about himself. Ashton said he would wait until Fearne was ready to talk to them.^[4]

Although there was still tension between them, as it was shown in the three trials organized by Morrigan and FCG, when Fearne decided to take the power of Rau'shan in Ligament Manor, Ashton supported her and lent his own vitality (through Fresh Cut Grass) so that she could survive the process. After they were done the rest of the group suggested that the faun and the genasi should be closer to see if their elemental essences reacted, and although they both expressed the idea sounded somewhat uncomfortable, they did shake hands, which awakened Ka'Mort's shard completely.

After returning to Exandria from their scouting mission on Ruidus, completely exhausted from their use of the shards of Ka'Mort and Rau'shan and impacted by the loss of Fresh Cut Grass, Fearne gave Ashton a big hug and checked in with them to see if they were okay. Ashton nervously and awkwardly asked Fearne if she would like some company for the night, and Fearne replied that she would love it if they could just hold each other for the night. That was what Ashton had had in mind, since they were really tired and everything hurt. Fearne added that she just wanted a long hug, then to fall asleep and wake up with someone. That night as they slept, Fearne was the big spoon and Ashton was the little spoon, with Fearne holding onto Ashton from the back, her head in the nape of their neck.^[5]

• Taliesin Jaffe has explained that Ashton considers himself romantically unlovable, not being really aware of being Fearne's crush despite acknowledging that she found him attractive.^[6]
• Ashley Johnson explained that Fearne's anger after Ashton attempted to absorb the second shard wasn't so much towards Ashton; it was watching him almost die because of a decision they both agreed upon and also it was embarrassment too. It was a f*ck up on both their parts and definitely on Fearne's as well.^[7]
