**Women in Construction Week Highlight**Meet Journeyman Wireman Sarah Waltz!Prior to joining IBEW Local 481, Sarah worked as a union laborer for 10 years. During her time as a laborer, she worked around electricians who proudly spoke about being IBEW members. After passing a billboard for the Electrical Training Institute, and being inspired by testimonials from current members, she decided to apply. She completed the 5-year program in 2020 and is now a proud Journeyman Wireman.Sarah finds fulfillment in the variety of projects she has had the opportunity to work on. One recent standout experience for her was spearheading a fire alarm project at IPS 41 last summer. She enjoys working on fire alarm systems and took pride in running the job herself. Sarah’s favorite aspect of being an electrician lies in the relationships she has built over the years. Many of her closest friends are electricians she has met on the job site or through the Local 481 Basketball League. Sarah's participation in the basketball league showcases her skills on the court and her commitment to breaking barriers as she is currently the sole female player.Beyond the job site, Sarah values family time and cherishes moments with her niece and nephew. We are proud to call Sarah a Local 481 member! Thank you, Sarah, for setting a powerful example for aspiring women in the construction industry!

Many moons ago when I was a muckshifting working foreman type person Buckingham group would be seen as top of the tree and quite rightly so. To say they where (and to all intensive purposes still should be) respected would be a understatement.I choose to leave the big world of big contracting for the particular reason that when you start to pay attention to company structures, dynamics, who owns who and who runs what the reality bites painfully that alot of the world of dirt and construction is run by a few sets of money..... and when things start to topple entire corporate structures start to disintegrate..... not just in the case of the initial company with a issue, but all and sundry who have been involved below them..... hopefully the current situation is a rare one where the administrators have actually been asked to come in and make it work, unlike so often happens where they are called in to bayonet the dead.it does leave the interesting questions of course of who owns who..... the likes of Kier for example..... and how there ownership of others influences fair trading..... as shown perhaps by the demolition fiasco.all food for thought.... glad I'm not in the big time.

Just something to share, as I always get inquiries about what is needed when operating a Suspended Scaffolding in NYC and the borough’s !! Well here it is the foreman qualifications. In New York City, qualifications for a suspended scaffold foreman typically include completion of a 32-hour Supported Scaffold User and Refresher Course, as mandated by the New York City Department of Buildings. This training covers safety regulations, assembly procedures, and other essential aspects. Additionally, a foreman should have practical experience in scaffold operations, leadership skills, and knowledge of local building codes. Always check for the latest requirements from relevant authorities.Suspended Scffold operators qualifications:A suspended scaffold operator is generally required to complete a 16-hour Supported Scaffold User Course, as mandated by the New York City Department of Buildings. This training covers safety protocols, proper use of scaffolds, and relevant regulations. Additionally, operators may need practical experience in scaffold assembly and operation. It's crucial to stay updated on local requirements and ensure compliance with safety standards.#swingstagingscaffoldingcorp #qualifications #safetyawareness #safetycertification
