Horizon Seminar Courses
Horizon Seminar Courses
Horizon Academic offers two distinct kinds of research experiences: Horizon Labs, which is a one-on-one research mentorship program, and Horizon Seminar. Horizon Seminar allows high school students to complete a college-level research project under the guidance of a professor or lecturer with decades of teaching experience in their field. Students develop individualized research topics and attend small group classes, with an average class size of 4 and a maximum of 6 students. TheSenior Instructors lead 14 classes throughout the trimester, and Teaching Assistants (who tend to be masters or PhD students in these fields) offer an additional 6 sessions for review, discussion, and feedback. Although Horizon Seminar classes meet in small groups of 4-6 students, all students complete their own individual research project and are not expected to agree upon a research topic with other students.

Summer Commuter Workshop:
Biomedical Research is a commuter-only workshop held at our facility in Alameda, CA 6/19-6/29. Students from outside the area are welcome to attend but there are no accommodations provided.

Rosetta Institute of Biomedical Research Molecular Medicine Workshops
There will be three Molecular Biology of Cancer workshops, three Molecular Neuroscience workshops, three Bioinformatics of Cancer workshops, one Molecular Immunology workshop, one Molecular Biology of Aging workshop, one Astrobiology workshop and one Developmental Biology workshop held at University of California, Berkeley, University of California, San Diego and Columbia University during summer 2024.
Specifically, Molecular Biology of Cancer and Molecular Neuroscience workshops will be held 6/2-6/15 and 6/16-6/29 at UCB and 7/7-7/20 at UCSD. The Molecular Biology of Aging workshop is 6/16-6/29 at UCB, the Molecular Immunology workshop is 7/7-7/20 at UCSD, and the Bioinformatics of Cancer workshops are 6/16-6/29 (UCB), 7/7-7/20 (UCSD) and 7/21-8/3 (Columbia). Developmental Biology and Astrobiology are 7/21-8/3 at Columbia, and the AI-Enhanced Bioinformatics workshop is 8/11-8/24 at Imperial College London.
Students are housed in on-campus undergraduate dorms in doubles or triples, and eat in campus dining facilities. Teaching assistants/residential advisors live with the students and are available to mentor and assist the students. In addition, the camp directors are on-site 24 hours/day.

School of Visual Arts Pre-College Program
SVA’s Pre-College Program offers courses taught by the same faculty of leading art professionals who teach in the college’s undergraduate degree programs. Students will explore the fundamentals of art and design at a level not readily available in high school. Students will receive one college credit for successful completion of the fall or spring program and three credits for the successful completion of the summer program.
Thefall and springprograms are open to all students who will be enrolled in high school at the time of the program and must be at least 14-18 years. The summer program is open to all students who will be entering their freshman, sophom*ore, junior or senior year of high school in the fall of 2023.

Sciences Po welcomes secondary school students from around the world as part of the Summer School’s Pre-College Programme. This programme is an opportunity to discover Sciences Po and experience college life and academics at one of France’s leading universities.

STEM Research Program
Applications for the 2024 Spring Cohort of the STEM Research Program are open.
Led by MIT alumni, the STEM Research Program helps ambitious students in high school work 1-on-1 with a PhD mentor to learn about the cutting edge in their scientific field of interest and produce an independent research project.
After weekly meetings with their mentor to discuss new topics and their related research paper, students receive an evaluation written by their mentors.

UCLA Game Lab
The UCLA Game Lab Summer Institute introduces high school students to game-making as an artistic practice, teaching them techniques and tools to develop analog and digital games that reflect their own creative vision. No previous game-making skills are required. Students with an interest in games and visual arts will find the curriculum especially rewarding–and those who complete the two-week program receive 4 units of college credit!
