According to BLS data from May 2021, the job outlook for CRNAs is 11% higher between 2021-2031 than it is for anesthesiologists during the same 10 years.

Is CRNA school harder than med school? ›

While the CRNA degree is challenging, most health care professionals would agree that medical school for doctors is far more rigorous.

Can a CRNA administer anesthesia without a physician's supervision? ›

In some cases such as, obstetrics or pain management, CRNAs practice without any physician supervision. Due to their extensive training and recent correlating data, CRNAs are perfectly capable and should be trusted to provide anesthesia services safely.

Is it better to be a CRNA or anesthesiologist? ›

Becoming a CRNA may be a better option if you prefer not to become a medical doctor and want a shorter educational path. However, becoming an anesthesiologist can lead to a higher salary, greater autonomy, and a broader scope of practice, including pain management and critical care medicine.

Is becoming a CRNA financially worth it? ›

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) in 2021 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists made a mean of $202,470. That number can increase quite a bit (think around 300k) if you work in a rural location, or a place where the demand is high. Loc*ms CRNAs as well as 1099 CRNAs also make quite a bit more.

What is the average debt of a CRNA? ›

The average graduate from nurse-anesthesia school can face student-loan debt upwards of $200,000. In addition to student loan debt, many CRNAs accumulate credit-card debt, personal loans, car loans, and even a home mortgage before, during, or after their educational years.

Can CRNAs call themselves anesthesiologists? ›

Both “anesthetist” (one who administers anesthesia) and “anesthesiologist” (one who has studied the science of anesthesia) are accurate titles for expert CRNAs and physicians specializing in anesthesia.

What can CRNAs not do? ›

Why do nurse anesthetists make so much? ›

Nurse Anesthetists make so much more than other types of Nurses because of the extra years of school and training and the increased complexity and risk inherent in their job. Sedating someone and administering anesthesia is a complicated science, and small mistakes can lead to fatal consequences.

Is it better to become a CRNA or an AA? ›
